26 burnt to death, 11 injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

wenty-six passengers were burnt to death and 11 others injured in a ghastly auto crash at Quarry, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning.
Sunday Sun gathered that the accident involved two commercial buses. One was heading for Ibadan and the other Lagos before the crash.
It was further learnt that the accident occurred at 7a.m., as a result of dangerous overtaking where traffic was diverted at Quarry area due to ongoing construction on the highway. The two buses collided and went up in flames instantly.
Eyewitnesses said the 26 passengers that lost their lives were burnt beyond recognition.
The 11 injured passengers comprised three children and eight adults.
A combined team of officers of the Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) evacuated the victims.
The Sector Commander, FRSC in Oyo State, Mr. Yusuf Salami, when contacted, declined to comment, saying reports on the accident had been sent to the FRSC headquarters in Abuja.
But the Police Public Relations Officer for Oyo State Police Command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of Police  (SP), who confirmed the incident, said: “The fatal motor accident occurred about 7a.m today (yesterday) along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway by Quarry. The two commercial buses involved had a head on collision and burst into flames.
“As a result, 26 persons died, while 11 others including three children were injured. Corpses of the dead have been deposited at the Adeoyo General Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan for autopsy.
“The injured have been taken to Central Hospital and UCH, Ibadan for medical attention. Investigations have begun.”
