The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will continue to explore more avenues of creating employment opportunities for the teeming youths of the country.

The Bank’s Deputy Governor in charge of Corporate Services, Suleiman Barau, stated this on Thursday, while speaking at an entrepreneurship training programme organised by the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria School of Basic Studies (Basico) 77/78 and 1981 graduating class at the African Community Bridge Foundation, Abuja.

According to Barau, “lack of job opportunities and graduate unemployment are some of the major challenges facing the youth demography in Nigeria.

“The training would propel young graduates from being seekers of white collar jobs to self-reliant entrepreneurs.”

The CBN official further disclosed that the entrepreneurship training would cover the areas of starting-up businesses, sourcing for business finance, legal aspects of business and other vocational skills.

While urging the participants to take advantage of the training, Barau assured them of the apex bank’s readiness to provide support in terms of finance and manpower development.

President of Basico 77/78, Yahaya Ali Amfani, said the training of youths in vocational skills was needed to mitigate the challenge of unemployment faced in the country.

He added that the entrepreneurship training would give participants the opportunity to identify their vocation and how best to realize their full potentials.
